This Sport Will Turn Your Dog Into A Champion
Animals should also exercise to avoid obesity or various diseases, as well as to reduce anxiety and channel all their energies. For this reason, in the following article we will tell you about this sport that will turn your dog into a champion.
Sport for the champion in your dog
The discipline is called International Canine Obedience (OCI). As its name implies, it is based on different exercises to demonstrate which is the most obedient dog in the world. There are no races, sizes, or ages here, but discipline, love, and lots of practice.
This sport began in Colombia almost a decade ago and today it is developed for fun or professionally. The good news is that through games you can train your furry.
The OCI event itself is regulated by specialized judges and it is necessary to comply with a regulation, which aims to measure the skills of each participant. The contests are divided into various modalities: in the promotional categories are puppies, youngsters and those of grade 0. In the professional categories are grades 1, 2 and 4.
According to experts, in dog discipline and training this sport is one of perfection and precision, and seeks a harmony or symbiosis between the animal and its owner or trainer. Within the tests, food or toys can be used as an incentive or reward, but mistreating the pet both on and off the track is prohibited.
International Canine Obedience does not require any special characteristics or breeds from the participants. This means that all dogs can be part of it, even the “criollos”. Training can begin in puppies as early as two months of age.
How is the sport that can turn your dog into a champion?
It is a circuit with ten exercises, which include permanence (staying still for a certain period), recovering objects, olfactory exercises, walking with the guide without using a leash, movements that demand perfection (in the highest categories) and changes remote position.
Within the promotional category, for example, the regulation has 6 exercises (all have a maximum score of 10 units):
1. Together without strap
The command that should be used by the guide is “fuss”. The exercise takes place in a square with a side of 5 meters. It begins with a journey at normal speed, continues with two turns to the right and two to the left, two half turns and two stops. Points are deducted from gestures, the double command, that the dog does not adopt a position or that its attention is intermittent.
2. Cast in a group
The commands are “Lying” or “Sitting”. This exercise is carried out in a group of a minimum of 3 dogs and a maximum of 6. They all start sitting with their handlers 5 meters in front of them. The judge orders the position to each one when their guides move 10 meters away. Points are deducted if the animal gets up before the order, if it barks, if it tries to fight with others or if it does not reach the handler after the order.
3. Remote control
The commands are the same as in the previous exercise. The dog sits down and the handler walks 3 meters away. When indicated by the judge, the dog must change position and head towards him. At a new order the furry must remain still.
4. Group sitting for 1 minute
The command is “sitting”, the execution is carried out with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 dogs. The guides are at a distance of 5 meters and then they move away 3 more meters. In all that time the animal cannot get up or change position. Points are deducted for the same failures of the previous group exercise.
5. Send the dog to an address
The commands in this case are “Forward”, “Standing”, “Stay” and “Together”. The exercise begins with the dog in a corner 3 meters from the handler, in a standing position. The coach will give the orders for you to change your position.
6. Sitting and lying down
The commands are “sit”, “lay down” and “fuss”. The exercise is performed in a 5 meter square with one cone per corner. The guide tells you to sit or lie down in each corner.
