The Importance Of Rest For Your Pet
Sometimes we see our dog sleeping and we wake him up because we want him to come with us to the sofa or simply to say something nice to him. This shows that we unfortunately underestimate rest in our animals and this is not beneficial for them.
We want to dedicate this article to show you the importance that sleep and rest have on your pet so that you think about it before waking it up again for no reason.
How does rest help our pet?
In the same way that we have to sleep a few hours a day, our pets also need their rest time. That we see them sleeping during the day does not mean that they are loafing because they have slept at night and it does not mean that they did not do so while there was no light.
To understand the importance of rest in our dogs we must know that they have different sleep cycles than ours and that depending on their age they sleep more or less.
Good rest helps your dog do several things:
- Being in a good mood. Yes, dogs have their own character and personality. A no-rest can alter their emotions and cause the dog to be unfriendly or even aggressive.
- Inner peace. A good rest will make the animal calm and not feel anxiety or internal nervousness that causes it to be unwell throughout the day.
- It favors the good function of your organism. As with us, dogs need different functions of their body to work during the hours of sleep. A good rest will allow this to happen in the case of your pet as well.
- Energy. A bad rest robs us of all energy. If your dog does not rest properly, he will not have the energy to do his daily exercise and this could cause heart racing or even become overweight if the animal refuses to exercise.
As you can see, the health of your pet is put at risk if it does not rest properly. Now, good rest requires more than simply not disturbing him while he sleeps, it is necessary to create a suitable environment for his relaxation and sleep. How to do it?
Create an ideal resting place for your dog
What factors should we take into account to create the ideal resting environment for our pet?
- The place. The place where we position the bed is very important. If your dog wants to be close to you but you put his bed on the other side of the house, it is likely that he will spend the night trying to reach you and that will generate stress and anxiety that does not allow him to sleep and rest as he should.
- Bed. This should be of a size that allows the animal to turn and lie down whole and that when it wants to curl up it feels protected. Try different textures, harder or softer, and let the animal itself decide which one they like best.
- The lighting. Although it seems that this does not matter to pets, it is not entirely true. They have their tastes and preferences with light. To find out which one your dog prefers, observe where it usually goes to sleep, if in a place with light or, on the contrary, it prefers to do so in darker areas such as between sofas or under the bed. This will let you see what lighting the animal should have for its good rest.
- Consider their cycles. Let him sleep when he does. Your sleep cycle works like ours, you will sleep what you need. You may find it strange to see him sleep several hours a night and several hours a day, but this is how his body asks him to do it. Don’t wake him up for no reason.
As you can see, the rest of your dog is as important as any other facet of its care, so it is vital that you take it into account and that you help it to rest in the correct way.
