Siamese Cats, Cat Elegance
The prettiest, without a doubt, with his slim pale body and blue eyes. Siamese cats, in addition to being elegant, are calm but at the same time very curious. Would you like to know more about this breed? Then keep reading.
Traditional and modern Siamese cats
Within the Siamese breed there are two varieties. The first is known as “Traditional” or “Thai”, and is the original (to call it somehow). To know their history we must travel to ancient Siam (now Thailand), where they were the exclusive pets of the King and his family, since they considered they had a pure character due to their white color, sacred in the region.
In this country they are known as Wichien-Maat, and it is believed that they appeared in the 14th century. Because they are considered of high value and sacred when a person of high trait passed away, a Siamese cat was placed near the body so that it can receive the spirit. After that, it was said that the animal was the guardian of the deceased and lived in a temple or monastery, surrounded by all the luxury that we can imagine.
The rounded shapes of its body and face, the short muzzle, the elongated blue or blue eyes and the short tail with a round tip are some of the characteristics of traditional Siamese cats.
For its part, the modern variety dates from approximately 1890. A decade earlier they had been brought from Siam to England and the United States and had contact with other cat breeds. It is a stylized and slender animal, with a fine snout and almond-shaped eyes, a slim and long neck and light fur on the mantle and dark on the ears, face, legs and tail.
Siamese cat personality
An ancient legend says that the Siamese cat arose when a monkey and a lioness fell in love. From that impossible union, puppies were born that combined qualities of both animals. This story is perfect to understand the character of this feline: brave as a lion and agile as a monkey.
As with most felines, they are more than independent beings. In the particular case of the Siamese, although they are faithful to their owners, they will never fully submit to it and may even show their liking or dislike with the meow.
It is a very affectionate cat (it shows affection frequently) and feels very attached to its owners. It can be very sociable and especially curious. The latter is its main quality. While this is normal in felines, it appears more intensely in Siamese. He will be continuously investigating the environment, if there are new objects or looking for things that catch his attention.
On the other hand, he is very agile due to his physical build and musculature. The hyperactivity and energy of Siamese cats are similar to other Asian breeds. I may spend hours running and jumping all over the house. It is very playful and cheerful.
In addition, a Siamese is more than sociable, intelligent, lively. Attention, they are also sensitive and tender cats that purr very easily and usually choose a single person as the absolute owner (you will realize who it is because it is the one who asks for pampering and attention).
Necessary care and health of Siamese cats
If you are thinking of adopting a Siamese cat, you must remember that you can take it home when it is three months old. Before that, he will not have been socialized or learned everything that the mother has to teach him. After that time, you may not adapt to your new home.
Males are larger and more impetuous and females are quieter and more docile. You should also know that it is a very prolific breed and during the mating season the meows are unbearable. Many owners choose to sterilize the animal after the first breeding.
Among the positive aspects of this breed (which can present strabismus in its eyes) it is worth noting its short hair, which does not require too much care and is clean by nature.
