Meet the Sacred Cat of Burma
History and origin of the Sacred cat of Burma
The Sacred Cat of Burma is haunted by a legend that seems to explain its origin. It is said that many hundreds of years ago the Khmer people built a temple that would be used to worship a golden sapphire-eyed goddess named Tsun-Kyan-Kse.
The priest who looked after the temple was called Mun-Ha and he spent a lot of time in front of the goddess, kneeling and next to Sinh, the temple cat. One night, assailants murdered Mun-Ha. Sinh stepped on top of him, but didn’t take her gaze off the golden goddess. As he was doing it, his hair turned to gold, his eyes to sapphire blue, and his paws turned to the color of earth.
The legend continues that all the cats in the temple underwent the same transformation, and that when Sinh died, just 7 days later he took the priest’s soul to paradise.
How the Sacred Cat from Burma came to Europe
Apparently, a priest gave a pair of these cats to some English travelers, to thank them for saving his life on one occasion. Unfortunately, the male died on the journey, although the female was pregnant.
The first specimens of the Sacred Cat of Burma that were seen in Europe were observed in France, where it was recognized as a breed in 1925. After the Second World War, the breed almost disappeared, as only one pair remained, and although it cost, the Sacred Cat of Burma was brought forward.

Burma Sacred Cat Character
Despite the independent reputation of felines, the Sacred Cat of Burma is very sociable and very easy to tame. A kitten you can trust and have a calm character. All those who have one define them as loving, faithful and good companions.
They are not one-person cats, and when they look for pampering, if they don’t find them in someone, they will look for another. They always come when you call them and they are loving and cuddly. They are moderately active, so you may need to help them get a little exercise through games.
Something that characterizes them is that they maintain eye contact with their owners, a rare virtue in the animal world. In fact, the Sacred Cat of Burma is more compared to dogs than cats.
Special care and health
You should take care of their hair by brushing it daily, although it will not require more care than that.
It is good to know that some specimens often suffer from an alteration of a gene that affects the optic nerve, and that, in addition, for other reasons, they can also suffer from cataracts.
Are you already thinking of adopting a Sacred Burmese cat as a pet? Then do it! You will not regret.
