Pancho, The Most Famous Dog On Spanish Television, Dies
Perhaps those who have not lived or do not live in Spain, do not know Pancho, a Jack Russel who has accompanied all its inhabitants since childhood. Pancho, the dog who was an actor, the protagonist of advertising and also of some television commercials.
On this occasion we want to pay tribute to this loving and funny animal, because we have bad news to tell you: Pancho, the dog, has died at 16 years of age. Today we are going to tell you more about him, as well as his television career.
Meet Pancho, the dog that occupied the tv screens
His real name was not Pancho, but Cook, but hey, the Spanish are so folkloric that a name like Cook would not have learned it. Therefore, for us it will always be Pancho, the dog.
Pancho rose to fame for a famous national lottery advertisement in which he stole his owner’s lottery and became a millionaire. Also, you could see how he used the money: traveling the world. Thus, the dog could be observed with a hat lying in a hammock in the Maldives or with a fur cap in Moscow.
The truth is that the ad was funny and Pancho looked very funny with his different outfits. A round of bets was formed that tried to find out what the next destination of the animal would be.
That was his rise to fame. Soon the television networks began to draw the animal for different roles, but now it was Pancho who had the upper hand and chose, according to his preferences, the roles that seemed best to him.
The first project he accepted was the movie “Pancho, the millionaire dog”, which was aimed at children and followed the same line of the advertisement that launched him to fame. The film was a success among the little ones and also the oldest.
Later he was an actor in a famous series called “Here is no one who lives” in which he starred in the dog of a romantic and virgin grandmother who was still looking for the love of her life, although according to her that love was her sister’s husband and she was removed it.
Pancho was in the middle of their fights and was even used by neighbors to blackmail his owner, kidnapping him and demanding a ransom for him. A very funny series that the dog made even more enjoyable.
On May 19, 2016, at the age of 16, this beautiful Jack Russel died of natural causes, leaving a void in all Spanish hearts.
However, like me, we will all carry you in our hearts, Pancho, because you were part of our life, our childhood and our memories.
Other dogs on television
There have been many dogs that have been part of our lives through the screens, not only in Spain, but internationally. We wanted to remind some of you:
- Lassie. Who does not remember that Collie dog who had her own television series that made us cry and laugh?
- Frank. This beautiful French Bulldog was the star of the “X-Men” movie series.
- Hachiko . The beautiful Alaskan Malamute that filled our eyes with tears for the loyalty shown to its owner until the end of its days.
- Beethoven. That little Saint Bernard who did his thing with the youngest of the house in a movie that bore the same name. One more memory of our childhood.
- Rex. His strong body and stately pose will be something that we will never forget about this beautiful German shepherd who played a police partner in a series that was named after him, “Rex.”
- Marley. The movie starring Jennifer Aninston called “Marley and I” filled our hearts with emotions and we even shed a few tears.
Many are the dogs that have passed through the screen to brighten our lives, making our minds fill with memories. We will never forget them, and that is why today we wanted to pay them this little tribute.
