Meet Wings of Rescue, volunteer pilots who save the lives of dogs

The fight against abandonment is endless. Despite the efforts of many to want to end this evil, there are more and more abandoned dogs. The reception centers are full and in many cases they have more dogs than they can support. What happens then with the excess of animals? Something that Wings of Rescue aims to avoid.

It is simple and sad at the same time: they are sacrificed. A painful reality that kills hundreds of innocent and defenseless animals every year. For this, Wins of Rescue has formed a squad that helps these beings, would you like to know more about them?

Seeing the excessive amount of abandoned animals and the sad end they had, Yehuda Natanel came up with a unique and non-profit idea that will give a new life to these animals that can no longer be in adoption centers.

However, at first it was not easy, as it was a huge fight for him alone. With his private plane he decided to collect dogs that were going to be euthanized to take them to other adoption centers where there was room and that could be adopted.

Alone, Yehuda managed to save the lives of 300 dogs, although he always felt that it was not enough. So he thought there might be other animal-loving pilots who could help him.

After an exhaustive search and a great effort, he managed to gather a group of volunteer pilots willing to give him a hand, so in 2009 Wings of Rescue was created.

Now there are more than 30 pilots dedicated to this cause. Obviously this has made the number of dogs helped much higher, increased from 300 that Yehuda managed to save only to 12,000 thanks to Wins of Rescue.

How does Wings of Rescue work?

Like all non-profit associations, Wings of Rescue relies on donations from people in this case who love animals.

Each flight that carries animals about to be slaughtered has a cost of $80. These are paid for thanks to charitable donations. Not long ago, Wings of Rescue, thanks to these donations, massively transported about 250 dogs from a San Bernardino center in California to other centers throughout the country.

The trips that this organization covers are between 1000 and 3000 kilometers, something that would be almost impossible for the animals if these trips had to be done by car. This year Wings of Rescue is aiming to save another 7,000 dogs.

This is an initiative that surely all those who love animals will applaud. We hope that it will serve as a precedent for many more with good hearts to give of their time and energy to help those animals that seem to have no other way out.

If you want to collaborate with the cause you can enter their website or their Facebook page and make a donation. As small as it is, it will be welcome.

Although it is a different way, there are other people who have been willing to give of their time, energy and money to help the most disadvantaged animals.

  • Ken, the Filipino boy. Ken began with his father to collect abandoned animals, even creating a shelter in which to take care of them and give them a home.
  • Sher Polvine. A lady has dedicated time, energy and money to create a shelter for elderly animals in which she offers them the care they need.
  • Sandy. Every week he goes to an animal shelter to read for at least an hour to the dogs that are confined there.

These are just a few cases of quality people willing to help the most disadvantaged animals. If you want to be part of them, there are many things you can do, from making a donation to volunteering for some of the tasks. You dare?
