Lies About Animals Spread By Cartoons
Through the years, people have learned different things related to the nutrition, behavior and texture of animals, which end up being simple myths. We find that many of these beliefs have been instilled in us through different means, for example comics, movies, series, etc. So here are some lies about animals that cartoons have spread.
Ostriches are cowards and hide their heads in the face of danger
In fact there is nothing cowardly about ostriches, reaching 3 meters in height and weighing about 180 kilos, ostriches are the largest and heaviest bird that exists on earth. They are a formidable opponent for any predator, developing an arsenal of defenses that include powerful muscles, great size and weight, a speed that can reach 90 kilometers per hour and enough force to kill a lion with one kick.
They dig the earth in search of food, in fact ostriches are extremely territorial animals, in addition to being good parents that protect their chicks and eggs with ferocity, therefore it is most likely that, in the face of danger, an ostrich will run away at full speed or attack with your powerful kicks.
Mice like cheese
Possibly the most widely transmitted lie in cartoons and some movies is that mice love cheese and therefore would do almost anything for a slice of that delicious delicacy. However (And since we have talked about other dairy products in this blog) the reality is that mice do not like cheese at all, in fact, they have such sensitive noses that some cheeses are really repulsive to them.
However, this myth is very old, more than cartoons, it seems that in ancient times people stored grain, salted meat and cheese in warehouses. The grains and meat were well protected, however the cheese had to be aired, which is why it was more vulnerable to a hungry mouse that, if necessary, would consume anything, even biting humans to consume its meat.
The bulls are inflamed with the red
Are you afraid that as you walk through the field with your red shirt on, you will suddenly run into a bull and have to run for your life? While finding a bull by surprise can be quite intimidating, some specimens weigh a ton, the truth is that, unless they consider you a threat, you will not run the slightest risk, and nothing in the color of your clothes will make you the bull loses his head. The answer to this is very simple: bulls lack, like dogs and unlike cats, the cells in their eyes that allow them to differentiate color (rods), feeling more attracted to movement.
The coyote is slow
For lovers of the adventures of the evil and unfortunate coyote and the speedy roadrunner, it will be a blow to realize that coyotes are in fact much faster than these birds. During the flight, the maximum speed that a roadrunner can reach is 32 kilometers per hour, which is quite slow if we take into account that the average speed at which coyotes arrive is 69 kilometers per hour … So it would not make sense for the coyote the investment in so many Acme gadgets, although the series would have been very short, as well as little entertaining.
Rabbits love carrots
Another myth widely spread by Warner Bros. is that rabbits love carrots, and there is some truth to this. However, it is not that it is a specific vegetable that they prefer, rabbits love vegetables in general, but when we talk about their preferences they choose green leaves over carrots.
Dogs and cats cannot live together
This has some truth, but it has more to do with a behavior problem than with exacerbated hatred. A poorly socialized dog or cat will get along with any animal because it has not learned to contain its hunting instinct, but it is absolutely possible, and even common, to have dogs and cats that get along very well and share the same space.
