Earthquake In Ecuador: A Dog Refuses To Leave His Destroyed House

Faced with humanitarian crises such as those caused by the Ecuador earthquake , sometimes the drama of the pets that died takes a backseat  or that they lost their home  for this true tragedy. And although the loyalty that dogs have to their owners is known, in extreme situations this condition is usually more strongly evident. That is why it is not strange to read news that indicates that a dog refuses to leave its house destroyed by the earthquake.

The story of Max, the dog that did not want to leave his collapsed home

On Facebook, for example, it went viral the video of a puppy that remains in the rubble of what had been his home, in Guayas, one of the provinces most affected by the earthquake.

Like all his human family – composed of three members- He had died because of the earthquake, the residents of the place wanted to assist him. But the animal is refused to eat, and even to drink, and returned again and again to the ruins of his house.

In the midst of the misfortune, it can be said that the story had a happy ending, because finally the pet, named Max, was collected by relatives of the victims and received veterinary assistance.

However, Max’s is not the only story in which a dog refuses to leave his house destroyed by the earthquake.

In this case, the good news among so much misfortune is that the furry man managed to find his owner. And even though they lost all their material things, they have each other.

Pets: the other victims of the Ecuador earthquake

Although they are not the center of information , like humans, many pets perished due to the earthquake in Ecuador. Others were able to be rescued and some were lost and left wandering through the disaster areas. And there are also those who refuse to leave their destroyed houses.

For this reason, and l Regional Canine Training Center (CRAC) enabled two shelters for animals affected by the disaster. The shelters are located in Manta and Pedernales, two of the cities most affected by the earthquake. A group of veterinarians are working there on a voluntary basis and donations are received from different places to assist the pets.

Among the tasks that the CRAC is carrying out to assist pets affected by the earthquake are :

• Provide animals with veterinary attention, food and water as soon as they are found.
• Try to locate their owners.
• Find new families who want to adopt them.

Solidarity is present in extreme situations

It is commendable to highlight how, u Once again, solidarity and love are imposed to be able to get ahead in extreme situations. And, in the case of the domestic animals that were also affected by the catastrophe, it is moving to see how neighbors who survived seek to protect the pets who lost their human family.
